Along castles and palaces

Your hike through history and stone

The Eifel and Luxembourg are dotted with castles and palaces that will take you back to times long past. Some of these impressive buildings still stand proudly and almost intact in the landscape today - others are ruins whose walls nevertheless tell stories if you wander through them attentively. In the NaturWanderPark delux, you will come across many of these historic sites on your tours - making every hike a journey into the past.

  • In Vianden, for example, a real gem rises above the Our valley: Vianden Castle is one of the largest preserved castles west of the Rhine. The foundations were laid here in the 11th century. Today, you can visit the castle after a 12-kilometre hike on the Nat'Our Route 5 - after you have worked up some fantastic views on the high paths around Vianden. The Our - a border river between Luxembourg and Germany - accompanies you in wide loops through the valley.
  • Neuerburg Castle in the southern Eifel is no less impressive. Its roots go back to the 12th century and it was restored at the beginning of the 20th century. Today it is a youth castle - but also freely accessible to hikers. Along the Neuer-Burg-Weg trail, you can enjoy the imposing castle complex as well as exciting views of fortifications and former buildings, embedded in a 12-kilometre circular tour with rocky paths, valley views and medieval flair around the small town of Neuerburg.
  • The ruins of Prüm Castle await you with a panoramic view - climb the fortified tower and enjoy the view. On your hike along Felsenweg 5 - Prümer Burg, you can also discover traces of the Romans and admire the rapids of the Irrel waterfalls.
