Dudeldorf
This former farming town, with its partially preserved city fortifications dating from 1345 and 1750, has retained its medieval charm to this day. Until the French Revolution, the town served as a border town of the Duchy of Luxembourg against the Electorate of Trier and was granted the right to build a wall by King John of Bohemia in 1345. Two city gates—the Obertor from 1453 and the Untertor, built around the same time—an 18th-century castle converted into a palace, and old streets bear witness to its former strategic importance as a fortified town. Other historical sights in Dudeldorf include the former rectory from 1759, the former fire station from 1900 at the entrance to the castle, the Old Brewery—now an inn—with its former parish garden, the market fountain from 1859, and the Johannesbrunnen with its 18th-century statue of St. Nepomuk.
